What is counselling?

Counselling is designed to help you if you are experiencing difficulty or distress in your life. A counsellor will meet with you in a safe and private environment where you can start to talk about what is going on for you. The counsellor will listen to you and start to develop an understanding of your experiences from your point of view, and together you can start to work through these.

Often people find it really helpful to have someone to talk to that isn't involved in their every day lives. It can help you to understand your feelings, and come to clearer decisions. Often just talking about things can help you to make sense of bottled up thoughts and feelings.

The counsellor will not judge you, they will help you to try and examine some of the behaviours, thoughts and experiences that are difficult for you. Counselling isn't a quick fix, but it can really help you to feel differently and to make sense of things clearer.

You would usually see your counsellor once a week for as long as you need this. Some people might see a counsellor for several weeks or months, and others for longer.

If you would you like to make an appointment to see a counsellor, or find out more about Looking Up please contact us.
